Finding the Best Fire Alarms and Sensors

For the purposes of choosing a fire alarm there are certain tips that need to be considered. Dual sensor alarms, photoelectric and ionization are the types of smoke detectors. These types of alarms use photoelectric and ionization technology. Smoke alarms that are photoelectric use light as the main source which is aimed into sensing chamber at an angle away from the sensor. The light onto the light sensor is defracted and reflected upon entering the chamber. Alarms that are photoelectric are used to detect smoldering fires as they create a lot of smoke with or without many visible flames. Through buildup of dust in the photoelectric alarm fire unit, setting of the alarm is achieved.

Small particles of smoke from fast flaming fires are detected using ionization alarms. Large smoke particles are produced by smoldering fires while small smoke particles are produced by fast, flaming fires. Ionization alarms use the working principle of holding a small amount of radioactive material between two electrically charged plates that ionizes the air and creates a current between the plates. The alarm is activated when the smoke enters the chamber and disrupts the current.

In addition to the small particles of smoke that is produced by fast flaming fires, ionization smoke alarms can be triggered by the smoke produced by burnt food or by steam from the shower resulting to a false alarm. The most unsuitable place for placing an ionization smoke alarm is the kitchen or bathroom.

The smoke alarms that are dual sensors are just the combination of ionization and photoelectric sensors into one unit. Both sensors of some dual sensors are required to go off in order for the alert sound to be detected but they cause delay. Only one sensor is required to tripped in order to sound the alarm in other models of dual sensor smoke alarms.

In order to invest on a fire alarms, things such as digital carbon monoxide display, silence buttons and interconnectability are considered. Fire alarms are required to have a flashing light as part of the smoke alarm’s warning system for the purposes of those whose hearing is impaired. Safety lights that provides illumination in the dark are a good recommendation for fire alarms.

When it comes to interconnectability, linking of carbon monoxide to the fire alarm is done upon rise of a fire. Its quite important to link carbon monoxide detectors with fire alarms as some home are of multiple levels.

Another important tip is that the alarm should have a silence button instead of disabling the whole unit. A silence button is a temporary measure and when the alarm is triggered the alarm will sound again. Silence buttons present in a fire alarm is not a factor of concern. As for digital carbon monoxide detectors they are important for the home’s safety and display the level and concentration of carbon monoxide.
